Men's Volleyball Knocks Off Division I Princeton

Violets Top Tigers for the First Time Since 2008

The New York University men's volleyball team posted its first win over Princeton University since its run to the EIVA Semifinals in 2008, spoiling the Tigers's home-opener with a 3-1 win on Tuesday, February 8, in Princeton, NJ.

The Violets (6-3), currently ranked #5 in the AVCA Division III Men's Coaches Top 15 Poll, recorded the 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 25-21, 25-19) win over the Tigers (1-4) despite being out-killed in the match 51-43.

Posting double-digit kills for the eighth time in nine matches in 2011 was Taylor Fauntleroy, who put down a team-high 13 kills.  At the net, the sophomore put back six blocks, including two solos, while also picking up four digs.

Also in double-digits on offense for the Violets was Nick Capriccio, who recorded 10 kills while also hitting a match-high .533 and adding six blocks.

Setter Connor Mortland had a strong all-around match, dishing out 38 assists while also contributing to eight of the team's 16 total blocks on the night.

On defense, libero Dylan Ramey continued to post strong numbers, leading all players with eight digs on the night.

For the Tigers, Pat Schwaler put down 19 kills and Scott Liljestrom added six digs.

The Violets return to action Saturday night when they travel to Huntingdon, PA, to take on EIVA Hay and Division III rival Juniata College.  NYU fell to the Eagles in its 2011 home opener in a five-set thriller on January 13.  First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
