Spurred by a career day from D.J. Glavan in his final regular-season game, the New York University men's basketball team defeated visiting Brandeis University 70-54 in the squads' regular-season finale on Saturday, February 26, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

Glavan poured in a career-high 26 points, scoring many of his buckets in transition for the Violets (15-10, 4-10), who as a team outscored the Judges (16-9, 6-8) 16-0 in fastbreak points. He added a season-high-tying eight rebounds as well as four assists to lead NYU to a victory in which it led by double digits nearly the entire second half.

“This was my last game at Coles, and after four years playing here, I wanted to be aggressive and come out with a win,” said Glavan. “Overall, I'm very grateful for my experience at NYU. I wouldn't change it for anything – it's been a great four years.”

Glavan's fellow seniors, Richie Polan and Derek Becker, also played a big role for the Violets after the trio was honored prior to the game. Polan had 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals, while Becker contributed three boards, three assists and a steal in 36 minutes of action.

“It hasn't really set in yet,” said Polan of what may have been the seniors' final game at Coles. “When we came here four years ago, we set certain goals. We may not have reached all of them, but more importantly, we've all become great teammates and best friends.”

Polan and Glavan helped NYU pull ahead of Brandeis during a critical run midway through the first half. With the Violets' lead at one, 21-20, Polan sparked a 12-2 spurt with three buckets in just over two minutes. Glavan then capped the run with a three-pointer in transition, giving NYU a 10-point lead with 7:16 left in the first half.

Glavan's late jumper sent the Violets into halftime up 39-29, and with the margin still at 10, 51-41, midway through the second half, NYU pulled away behind Glavan. He scored eight points during the team's 13-0 run, giving it an insurmountable 64-41 lead with 5:36 remaining.

Kyle Stockmal and Andy Stein joined Glavan and Polan in double figures. Stockmal netted 11 points, eight of which came in the first half, and added five assists without a turnover as well as three steals. Stein scored 10 points and had two blocks on the defensive end.

Ben Bartoldus paced Brandeis with 12 points, while Youri Dascy netted 11. Christian Yemga and Ruben Kanya each pulled down six boards for the Judges.

With a 15-10 record to end the regular season, the Violets will find out about a potential berth in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro Tournament on Monday.
