The New York University men's soccer team fell 2-1 at Emory University in a double-overtime thriller in University Athletic Association (UAA) play on Sunday, October 30, in Atlanta, GA.

At the 52nd-minute mark, Nimo Freitag Bergstroem opened the scoring for the Violets (7-8-1, 2-4). Colm Dillane beat a defender and passed the ball to Mickey Ingerman deep in Emory (10-7, 4-2) territory. Ingerman then left it off for Freitag Bergstroem, who beat Emory goalie Andrew Goldblum.

However, the Eagles responded in the 81st minute with an equalizer from Dylan Price. Jeffrey Cochran sent a high throw-in inside the 18-yard box that found the head of Price, who found the back of the net to send the game to overtime.

In the first extra period, Violet goalie Forrest Sexton came up with two back-to-back saves to keep the game knotted at 1-1. Just five minutes later, Emory's Andrew Jones fired a long shot on net, but once again Sexton came up with a big save.

With the scored still tied at 1-1, the second overtime period opened with the Eagles and Violets trading scoring chances, but both goalies again made saves.

In the 108th minute, Sexton saved a header off an Eagles corner kick, but Price put in the rebound, scoring for the second time on the day and giving Emory the 2-1 victory.

"A tough loss," said NYU head coach Joe Behan. "It was a close game and now we must learn from this and continue to believe we can improve."

For the game, Emory outshot NYU 26-12. Sexton made four saves for the Violets, while Goldblum had two saves for the Eagles.

The Violets close the regular season at Brandeis University on Saturday, November 5, in Waltham, MA. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
