Behind a pair of goals from Kyle Green, the New York University men's soccer team bounced back from its second defeat of the season with a dominating 4-0 victory over Hunter College on Monday, September 27, on Randall's Island.

On a rainy night, the Violets (5-2-1) controlled the pace of play and outshot the Hawks (4-4-2) 16-3. The victory put them back on the winning track in their final non-conference tune-up before beginning University Athletic Association (UAA) play on Saturday afternoon against the University of Rochester, ranked #8 in the most recent D3soccer.com Top 25 Poll.

“We came out more intense than in the last game against Manhattanville,” said assistant coach Ryan Finnigan. “It's a big week for us and we're really looking forward to Rochester, but we knew we couldn't get ahead of ourselves and that it was important to take care of business tonight.”

NYU started taking care of business early, needing just 1:20 to score its first goal. Michael Burke played a long ball over the top to a streaking Chris Ramirez, and Ramirez deked a defender and fired a shot into the corner for his first career goal and the Violets' earliest in a game since 2003, when they converted a penalty kick just 29 seconds in against William Paterson University.

Green tallied the next two goals, the first coming in the 34th minute and the second in the 60th. On both goals he volleyed the ball over the keeper, with the second coming after Colm Dillane collected the ball on the end line, beat his man and passed to Green in the middle for the one-time touch.

The Violets did not let up with a 3-0 lead and added to it in the 88th minute on a penalty kick. Dillane drew the penalty by beating two players to make his way into the box before being taken down by a third. Nick Coulson took the ensuing kick and buried it to put the icing on the cake.

“We did well to confront Hunter's central midfielders in the middle of the field and were able to move the ball through our forward and attacking midfielders,” commented Finnigan. “We came out firing on all cylinders and kept attacking.”

NYU will look to build on its defeat of Hunter against Rochester on Saturday at the College of Staten Island. Game time is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
