NYU Falls to Chicago at UAA Men's Tennis Championship

Violets to Play in Seventh-Place Match

Stoler and the Violets will look to take seventh place later today.

The #8-seeded  New York University men's tennis team fell to #4-seeded University of Chicago 6-0 at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, on Saturday, April 24.

The Violets (4-10) struggled against Chicago (14-6), the 15th-ranked team in the ITA Tennis Men's Division III National Poll, falling into a 3-0 hole after doubles events.

Juniors Alex Stoler and Matt Gross were in contention at #1 doubles before falling 8-5. At #2 doubles, senior #P.J. Marranca and junior Jason Sacher# succumbed by the same score.

Chicago distanced itself from NYU in singles play, taking all four matches. Sacher dropped the #1 singles match 6-1, 6-2 while fellow junior Alex Zara was defeated 6-1, 6-0 in #2 singles play.

Stoler could not win a game in the first set of his #3 singles match, but turned his play around in the second set. Despite the strong effort, Stoler fell 6-0, 6-4.

The Violets will return to the court in today's seventh-place match against #6 University of Rochester. The match is set to begin at 4:00 pm.
