Men's Volleyball Falls to Princeton in Four

Violets Take the First Set Against the Tigers Before Falling 3-1

Sophomore Pat Dodd recorded a career-high 21 kills in the 3-1 loss to Princeton.

Hindered by a season-high 29 service errors, the New York University men's volleyball team fell to Division I Princeton University in four sets on Tuesday, March 30, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

Despite winning an epic first set 39-37 that included 27 ties and nine lead changes, the Violets (4-16) could not pull off the upset over the Tigers (8-7). NYU narrowly dropped the next three sets to fall 3-1 (37-39, 30-26, 30-28, 30-23).

Sophomore Pat Dodd put together a career night on offense for NYU, putting down a career-high 21 kills. On defense, the outside hitter added nine digs and four blocks.

Also putting together a superb night on offense was freshman Taylor Donovan who reached double-digits for the first time, tallying a season-best 14 kills while hitting .308.  At the net, Donovan also notched a career high, turning back five blocks while also adding four digs.

In the middle, junior captain Fran Hodgson and sophomore Luke Hamlet both reached double figures. Hodgson put down 12 kills and hit .310, while Hamlet added a career-high 15 and hit a team-best .591. Both middles also put up big blocking numbers with Hamlet leading the team with eight, including two solos, and Hodgson adding six more.

On defense, sophomore captain Jay Hayes also notched a career high, putting up a match-high 17 digs.

For the Tigers, Pat Schwagler notched 17 kills while Sean Cotter added 11 digs.

The Violets return to action on Saturday when they travel to Springfield, MA, to take on Division III rival Springfield College. First serve is set for 5:00 pm.
