Rookies Spark Violets Past CCNY

Flejsierowicz Scores First Collegiate Goal, Green Finishes With Tally and Assist

Mike Flejsierowicz' goal in the 63rd minute proved to be the game-winning tally.

Box Score

Mike Flejsierowicz found the back of the net for his first collegiate goal, breaking a scoreless tie in the 63rd minute as the New York University men's soccer team earned its first victory with a 2-0 triumph over City College of New York on Saturday night at the New Jersey Institute of Technology's Lubetkin Field in Newark, NJ.

Michael Burke gained control on the left side about 25 yards out, then floated across into the middle of the box at about the 18.  The ball trickled off Kyle Green and landed at the right foot of Flejsierowicz, who banged the ball home to break a scoreless tie for the Violets (1-1).

Green added an insurance tally with 1:52 remaining, tapping home a rebound for his second goal of the season as NYU owned a 25-7 edge on shots and a 10-0 advantage on corner kicks.

"I'm very, very happy with Kyle Green.  He's also dangerous up top flicking the ball off to teammates," NYU head coach Joe Behan said.  "It was great to see Mike go in and score a nice goal."

After a scoreless first half that saw NYU outshoot CCNY (0-2) 14-2, Flejsierowicz got the Violets on the board at 62:38.

CCNY pushed forward early in the second half, but Marek Urbanski (7 saves) turned back every advance, including a breakaway by Keegan Estrada in the 65th minute.

For CCNY, Taiwo Alabi played solid between the posts with 10 saves, including stops of Logan Smith and Ronnie Scardino from inside of five yards midway through the second half.

NYU returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 9, when it travels to Union, NJ, for a 7 p.m. match-up with Metro Region rival Kean University.
