Box Score
Despite owning advantages in shots and corner kicks, New York University dropped a 1-0 decision at Wilkes University in non-conference women's soccer action Friday afternoon in Edwardsville, PA.
In seeing their six-game winning streak end, the Violets (6-2) outshot the Colonels (4-4) by a 7-5 margin and took six of the contest's eight corner kicks. However, Wilkes pushed across the game's lone goal off a corner kick at 14:37 as Megan Clementson converted Lyndsay Ellis' attempt.
From there, NYU controlled play, especially in the final 20 minutes. However, Wilkes' Brooke Keister (three saves) stopped attempts by Filiz Kipcakli and Monica Arnold before thwarting a Lucy Dolly Caires header with 9:55 remaining. Tara Kiernan took the Violets' final shot, putting her directive wide at 86:22.
Rachael Ross dropped to 4-2 and did not need to make a save for NYU.
The Violets will return to action Sunday, Sept. 27, for their final tune-up before beginning University Athletic Association play. They will host two-time defending Skyline Conference champion Farmingdale State University at 1 p.m. at the College of Staten Island Soccer Complex. NYU will provide live stats.
