The New York University men's volleyball team snapped its six-match losing streak, defeating the Milwaukee School of Engineering, as the team split its matches on the first day of the Carthage College Invitational on Friday, March 13, at the Tarble Arena in Kenosha, WI.

The Violets (4-15), currently ranked #10 in the Bison/AVCA Division III Men's Coaches Top 15 Poll, fell to the fourth-ranked University of California-Santa Cruz Banana Slugs (11-9) 3-1 (30-22, 30-22, 29-31, 30-26) in their first match of the day.   NYU followed that match with a victory over the 15th-ranked Raiders (7-12) 3-1 (30-26, 27-30, 30-25, 30-27).

In the match against Santa Cruz, senior captain Devin Zolnowski led the NYU offense, putting down a team-high 20 kills along with 11 digs for his fifth double-double of the season.

Sophomore Francis Hodgson was also in double-digits, putting down 12 kills while hitting .364.

In the second match of the day, the Violets rebounded against the Raiders.

After Zolnowski left the match in the first set with shoulder stiffness, three Violets stepped in to fill the gaping hole left in the offense.

Coming in for the senior captain was freshman Patrick Dodd, who responded by tallying career highs in kills (12) and digs (7).

Junior Michael Ferragonio and Hodgson were also in double-digits, putting down 13 and 12 kills, respectively, while Ferragonio put up eight digs and Hodgson put back four blocks.

The Violets return to action on Saturday for the second day of the Carthage Invitational.  NYU will take on host Carthage at 11:00 am (cst) and then will face Nazareth College at 1:00 pm (cst).
