Caires, Kipcakli Make Their Marks in 6-0 Triumph Over Purchase

Lucy Dolly Caires tied NYU's career assists mark Sunday.

Filiz Kipcakli shattered a New York University single-season goal mark and tied the career mark in that category, while Lucy Dolly Caires tied the career assists record in the Violets' 6-0 non-conference women's soccer victory at Purchase College on Sunday in Purchase, NY.

Kipcakli banged home Caires' corner kick 1:45 into the contest for her sixth game-winning goal, surpassing the previous single-season standard established by Jennifer Farkas in 2000. Six of her seven scores this season have been game-winners. In addition, Kipcakli tied Alexa Kokinos' (1998-2001) record of nine in that category.

Meanwhile, Caires finished Sunday's game with a goal and two assists. Her second helper came on Serra Tumay's tally in the 73rd minute, allowing her to tie Farkas (2000-03) with 19 career assists. She also scored the Violets' final goal in the 86th minute.

"They are definitely deserving. They have both, individual and collectively, set and raised standards for our program," NYU head coach Werner T. Dasbach said. "It's exciting considering that we just hosted our alumnae and a lot of them were commenting on their records. We knew that we had a couple of players who were not far off."

In addition to getting strong contributions from the established trio of Kipcakli, Caires and Emily Jenkinson — who scored her fourth goal at 29:20 — NYU (9-5-1) also benefited from the play of its freshmen. Tumay and Mollie Eisler each contributed a goal and an assist. For Eisler, it was her first career points, including her first goal at the 39:23 mark.

Rachael Ross started in goal and did not need to make a save in 45 minutes of action. Rookie Shannon Daley entered for the final 45 minutes and made her first collegiate stop, a diving stab, to preserve the shutout.

"This was an opportunity for our players to be productive and for our non-starters to get a run in," Dasbach said. "This was an opportunity for the newer players who have been watching to step in and step up, as well."

The Violets owned sizable advantages in shots (27-1) and corner kicks (11-0) over the Panthers (7-5-3) in their final regular-season, non-conference game. NYU returns to action Friday, Oct. 30, when it hosts University Athletic Association rival the University of Chicago for Family Day at Manhattan College's Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY. Game time is 1:30 p.m.
