Junior wrestler Kyle Christensen, who won all three of his bouts against tough competition on Saturday, was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week on Jan. 26.
NYU hosted Rhode Island College, King's College and York College (PA) at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Canter on Saturday. Christensen led off all three matches with victories.
Against Rhode Island, he won an 8-3 decision, against King's College he recorded an 11-0 major decision, and he followed that up with an 8-2 win over his York opponent.
Despite his success, NYU defeated only King's (23-21), while losing close matches to Rhode Island (19-18) and York (22-13).
NYU is now 6-5 this season, while Christensen upped his record to 20-15.
"This is a well-deserved honor for Kyle," said NYU head coach Bruce Haberli. "He struggled a bit early in the season, but I think he's coming into his own now. This award could certainly help him as he continues to improve."
Christensen and the rest of the team return to the mat this Saturday when NYU competes in the Metro/New England Duals at Hunter College beginning at 12:00 pm.
