Four different players hit the back of the net, helping New York University's women's soccer team thwart Ursinus College, 4-2, for its first victory of the season Saturday in the first game of the Stevens Institute of Technology Engineering Cup in Hoboken, NJ.

Senior forward Sarah Pillemer tallied a goal and an assist for the Violets (1-2), who rushed out to a 3-0 lead and staved off a subsequent Ursinus (0-2) rally.

NYU found itself ahead just 2:58 into the action when junior midfielder Lucy Dolly Caires deposited a low cross into the lower left corner. Sophomore forward Rebecca Assing, the Violets' leading goal scorer in 2007 with eight, made it 2-0 at 14:16, then sophomore forward Filiz Kipcakli found the back of the net off a feed from Pillemer at 24:20.

Ursinus made things interesting when Eleanor Jones (39:50) scored just before halftime, then Angela Lenzo (46:08) tallied just after intermission to pull the Bruins within 3-2.

However, NYU dominated offensively much of the contest, pressuring the Ursinus defense throughout en route to dominating the shot (29-8) and corner kick (13-3) columns.  Eventually, their persistence paid off when Pillemer converted a steal into an insurance goal at 80:36.

Sophomore Alex Walters earned her first collegiate victory, making one save for NYU.  Lisa Clark stopped 12 shots for Ursinus.

The Violets will play their second game in the Stevens Tech Engineering Cup on Sunday, Sept. 7, at noon against Middlebury College. Stevens forged a 1-1 tie against Middlebury earlier in the day, but earned a 5-3 edge on penalty kicks that will go toward a tiebreaker should it be needed to determine a champion.
