Junior Marek Urbanski made six saves, including a crucial stop late in the first overtime, as the New York University men's soccer team secured a 1-1 draw with the Stevens Institute of Technology, #12 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas National Rankings, on Wednesday night at Manhattan College's Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

Urbanski made three stops from near-point-blank range in regulation for the Violets (3-2-3), who extended their undefeated streak to six matches (3-0-3) and led 1-0 at halftime before the Ducks (7-1-1) snapped NYU's second-longest shutout streak ever at 545:21 at the 66:12 mark.

Senior Branden Neal put the Violets ahead 1-0 at 21:42 to cap his team's best offensive surge, skying above the Duck defense to head home a brilliant cross from sophomore Logan Smith.  It was Neal's team-best seventh goal of the season.

However, Stevens consistently pushed into the final third of the pitch, forcing Urbanski and the Violet defense to turn away opportunities.  Eventually, a run by Todd Sheridan set up Jeremy Lippel, who scorched a rocket into the top-left corner with 23:48 remaining in regulation to forge a 1-1 tie.

The Ducks could have ended things in the first 90 minutes, but a Nolan Sandberg header hit the post at 84:19 before a shot by 2007 All-American Terrence Johnson was stonewalled by Urbanski at 86:38.

"I thought the team played well," NYU head coach Joe Behan said.  "We opened up the scoring.  They're an excellent football side and I thought we held our own.  Our lads know what they need to work on."

Stevens owned a 17-8 edge in shots and a 10-1 advantage on corner kicks.  Sophomore Zach Carr made two saves for the Ducks.

NYU returns to action Saturday, Sept. 27, when it travels to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy for a noon start.
