Sophomore forward Britta Gauthier tallied her first goal of the season and helped New York University's women's soccer team dominate the statline, but the Violets dropped a 2-1 decision to Elizabethtown College on Sunday in its final game of the Elizabethtown Blue Jay Classic in Elizabethtown, PA.

Despite falling to 0-2, NYU owned sizable edges in shots (17-7) and corner kicks (15-3), and created several scoring chances that were thwarted by Elizabethtown (2-0) goalkeeper Angela Freeland (7 saves).

The Blue Jays received votes in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division III Preseason Poll, and are one of 12 NYU opponents this season that appeared in the 2007 postseason.

After the Blue Jays struck for two quick scores to take a 2-0 lead less than 19 minutes into the action, NYU produced its first goal of the season thanks to Gauthier's tenacity. The sophomore won a ball in the midfield, worked her way up field, and blasted home her second career goal from 21 yards out.

Senior goalkeeper Rebekah Kramer made one save in her third career start for the Violets.

NYU will return to action Saturday, Sept. 6, when it faces Ursinus College at 2 p.m. in the Fifth Annual Stevens Institute of Technology Engineering Cup in Hoboken, NJ. On Sept. 7, the Violets will face Middlebury College at noon.
