In a strong offensive game, the New York University men's soccer team came up short against #6 Emory University 6-3 in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest on Sunday at the College of Staten Island.
Dominating the first half of the game, the Eagles (16-0-0, 6-0-0 UAA) scored six goals to take a 6-0 lead at intermission. The Violets (5-9-3, 0-6-0 UAA) controlled the second half, scoring three goals of their own, but not enough to overcome the early deficit.
Patrick McFarland and Patrick Carver each scored two goals in the first half for Emory. McFarland knocked in a pass from Ben Schlang one minute into the contest and tallied his second score off a pass from Carver at 13:58. Four minutes later, Marc Del Marmol headed in a cross from Erik Laney. Schlang recorded his second assist of the game after Carver connected on a pass at 22:25. Carver then notched his second and Emory's final goal of the game at 28:10.
NYU entered the second half down by six goals, but kept fighting. Senior

Marek Urbanski took the loss, bringing his record to 4-8-3. Sophomore
Matt Stieve played the entire second half for the Violets. Jonathan Laycock was the goalkeeper of record for Emory and kept his record a perfect 16-0-0. Sophomore Greg Irons manned the net for 11 minutes in the second half.
Overall, NYU held an advantage in shots by a 16-14 margin and in corner kicks by a 4-1 difference.
The Violets conclude regular-season play with a home contest against another UAA member next Saturday, Oct. 8, when they host Brandeis University. The game begins at 1:30 pm and will be held at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
