Men's Soccer Stumbles at Case Western

Box Score

The New York University men's soccer team saw its seven-game undefeated streak end with a 3-0 loss to Case Western Reserve University in the University Athletic Association (UAA) opener for both teams Saturday night in Cleveland.

Ranked #4 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Metropolitan Region Rankings, the Violets (4-3-3, 0-1 UAA) were 4-0-3 in their previous seven contests.  They had allowed only four goals all season, and had not squandered more than one score in each of their first nine outings.

However, the Spartans (9-2-0, 1-0 UAA) dominated play, scoring on three of their four shots on goal.  Matt Paglia began Case's offensive with an unassisted tally at 17:34, helping the home team head into halftime up 1-0.

The NYU defense stayed steady until the Spartans tacked on a pair of tallies just 3:16 apart late in the game, as Jordan Fox (75:56) and Zeyad Schwen (79:12) each found the back of the net unassisted.

Junior Marek Urbanski made one save between the pipes for the Violets.

For Case, which owned a 16-6 edge on shots and a 9-2 advantage on corner kicks, Konrad Karasek made four saves.

NYU is off until next Saturday, Oct. 11, when it hosts UAA adversary the University of Rochester at Manhattan College's Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.  Game time is set for 1:30 p.m.
