Nick Coleman is in his third season as an assistant coach of the New York University wrestling team. His responsibilities include strength and conditioning for the upper middleweights, teaching technique, evaluating film, and helping with practice room workouts.
The squad finished 12-10 last year, as junior Gregg Martino (141) and Matt Magill (157) each qualified for the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships. Magill finished eighth in his weight class and earned All-America honors.
Also last season, a pair of upper middleweights sophomore Steve Massey (174) and freshman Sabino Galassi (184), captured University Athletic Association (UAA) titles under Coleman’s direction. Also winning UAA titles in 2010 were Magill, senior Sean Connors (165) and junior Steve Contino (133).
A 2008 graduate of NYU’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies with a Bachelor of Science degree in digital communications and media, Coleman transferred from the University of North Carolina after his freshman year.
A three-year member of NYU’s wrestling team, Coleman served as a tri-captain of the 2008 squad which finished a best-ever 12th at the NCAA Division III Championships. A Metropolitan Conference champion and a NCAA qualifier that season, he earned All-America honors with a sixth-place finish at 184 pounds in 2007.
A three-time UAA All-Association Team selection, Coleman posted a 32-7 record as a senior and accumulated a 90-31 career record at NYU.
A two-time National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American and UAA All-Academic honoree, Coleman helped lead NYU to the UAA Championship in his final campaign.
A native of Hershey, PA, Coleman resides in Manhattan.
