Amanda Vandervort is in her fourth season as head coach of the New York University women’s soccer team in 2006.

Last season, Vandervort’s squad recorded a 7-9-1 record, including a University Athletic Association (UAA) victory over then-#18 ranked Carnegie Mellon University on October 16.

Several of Vandervort’s players received individual honors during the 2005 season. Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Barnes and junior co-captain Whitney Dipollina were named Second Team All-UAA. Dipollina was second on the team in scoring with four goals and nine points, and recorded a pair of game-winning goals while starting every game. Barnes, who also played in all 17 games, led the team with 80 saves and a 1.14 goals against average. Junior co-captain Jennifer Tavares and freshmen Erin Brickman each received Honorable Mention All-UAA accolades.

Vandervort’s players also excelled in their classrooms last season, as 10 Violets garnered UAA Fall Sport All-Academic honors and four won Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Awards. Also last season, Vandervort’s players were presented with the NYU President’s Service Award in Community Service for hosting a soccer equipment drive for children displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Many of her players also currently volunteer their time to America Scores, a not-for-profit organization that uses the world's most popular sport, soccer, to energize and inspire NYC public school students.

Vandervort, a 2001 graduate of the University of Wyoming with a bachelor of science degree in communications, added a master’s of science degree in educational technology from The College of New Jersey in 2002.

While at NCAA Division I Wyoming, Vandervort was a four-year scholarship goalkeeper for the Cowgirls’ soccer team. She established team records for most saves (393), and for most minutes played in a career (4,695) and in a season (1,680). Vandervort led the Mountain West Conference in saves per game in 1999 and 2000, was selected team captain as a junior and senior, was voted the team’s Most Inspirational Player in 1998, and earned the 2001 Wyoming Soccer Athlete of the Year Award.

During the 2001 and 2002 seasons, Vandervort served as the Graduate Assistant and Goalkeeper Coach for The College of New Jersey’s women’s soccer team, which won the 2001 NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Region Championship and was a 2002 NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Region Finalist. In addition, Vandervort trained NCAA National Player of the Year and two-time All-American goalkeeper Victoria Nusse.

As a Region 1 ODP Coach, Vandervort participates in regional coaching exhibitions, camps and workshops, and trains teams and players throughout the northeast. She also acts as the Director of Media Relations for the National Soccer Coaches’ Association of America (NSCAA) Women’s Committee, and served one season as the goalkeeper coach for the New York Magic of the W-League. Vandervort earned a United States Soccer Federation ‘B’ Coaching License and passed her NSCAA Advanced National Diploma with Distinction.

A native of Tucson, Arizona, Vandervort currently resides in Manhattan.
