Donald Person, Jr. is in his third season as an assistant coach with the New York University men’s and women’s tennis teams. He assists Head Coach Horace Choy in all facets of the program.

In 2011-12, Person helped lead the men’s team to a 10-7 record, which included a four-match winning streak. In addition, the squad was ranked as high as #14 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Region rankings.

In his first season at NYU, Person helped the Violets to a 7-6 mark. After a 1-4 start to the year, the squad went on a tear, winning five in a row to end the regular season – its longest winning streak since the beginning of the 2001-02 season.

NYU climbed as high as #14 in the ITA Northeast Region rankings that season, while Connor Witty (9-3 record at #1 singles) was ranked as high as #15 individually in his debut season with the Violets.

Last season, beset by injuries and a complete roster of underclassmen, the women’s team endured a 0-12 season. However, the freshmen and sophomores did fare well in the classroom, as five team members earned Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Committee Honor Roll status.

In 2010-11, four of the six women‘s team members received UAA Spring Sport All-Academic honors, while three earned the NYU Student-Athlete Academic Achievement Award during the Violets’ 1-11 season.

A 2007 graduate of DePauw University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and a minor in economics, Person was a three-year varsity tennis player (2003-06). He played #1-#3 singles throughout his career and helped lead DePauw to the NCAA Division III Championship in 2006. Person’s success also helped earn DePauw a #6 national ranking during the season. For his success on and off the court, he was named to the NCAA National Leadership Conference as a freshman.

In May 2011, Person graduated from NYU’s Schack Institute of Real Estate with a Master of Science degree in real estate finance. He has also spent more than three years working in the financial industry at Person Properties, UBS and Lehman Brothers.

A native of Youngstown, OH, Person resides in Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
