The New York University wrestling team wrapped up day one of the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships, hosted by The College of New Jersey, on Friday, February 27, in Ewing, N.J.

For this regional tournament, the top three wrestlers in each weight class will qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships, set for March 12–14.

Ten wrestlers competed for the Violets, one in each weight class, as NYU sits in fourth place out of 21 teams heading into the second day of competition.

Following Friday's action, three NYU wrestlers remain undefeated in the championship bracket: Alexander Diaz (125), Jacob Venezia (133), and Ty Finn (174). Each will return to the mat on Saturday with a chance to secure a top-three finish and automatic qualification to nationals.

Diaz, Venezia, and Finn each recorded multiple victories on day one, advancing through their respective brackets.

In addition, three other Violets remain alive in the consolation bracket with a path to a third-place finish: Nicky Bell (165), Mo Talebi (197), and Nathan Faxon (285). Each will need to win their remaining matches on Saturday to keep their NCAA qualification hopes alive.

The wrestlers return to the mat for day two of the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships on Saturday morning beginning at 10:00 a.m.
