NYU Women’s Fencing Defeats #4 Harvard

Violets Defeat Crimson for First Time in Program History

The New York University women's fencing team defeated #4-ranked Harvard University, 14–13, on Friday, January 30, in Cambridge, MA.

It marked the first time in program history that NYU has defeated Harvard.

The series dates back to 1993, and the Crimson led 30-0 heading into Friday's match-up.

The match started in foil, with Harvard posting a 6-3 win. Saber was next, with the Crimson again recording a  6-3 victory.

However, the Violets' epee squad rallied the team to victory by taking the weapon 8-1. Katherine Chen and Azniv Basralian spearheaded the comeback with both going 3–0.

Aurora Aschettino led the foil squad with a 2-1 record, while Kayla Alcebar, Greta Yuan and Rosemarie Benciu each went 1-2 in saber.

The Violets return to action tomorrow when they compete at the Eric Sollee Invitational, hosted by Brandeis University in Waltham, MA.
