The New York University women's tennis team continued play at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships on Saturday, September 27, in Saratoga Springs, NY.
Victoria Wang will represent the Violets in the semifinals for singles, and two doubles teams will represent the Violets in the semifinals of the doubles side.
Wang won both of her singles matches of the day, both going the distance. In the Round of 16, she faced an opponent from St. Lawrence University and won 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, and in the quarterfinals, she won 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 against an opponent from Vassar College.
"There was a lot of good play all around but Vic stood out with her efforts," Head Coach
Horace Choy said. "Both matches she played started out with the other player playing extremely well. However, Vic did what she does best. She competed and found a way. She picked up her level and made things difficult for her opponents."
The Violets had two other members who made it to the Round of 16 for singles, but both
Sophia Yang and
Siona Vallabhaneni were unable to advance further.
The doubles were much more favorable for the Violets, as they had two teams progress to the semifinals. First, the duo of
Emma Kast and
Vera Bondarenko won both of their matches on the day 8-4. They played teams from Hamilton College and The College of New Jersey. The second duo of Wang and Yang won their first match against a team from St. Lawrence College 8-5, before beating a team from Vassar College 8-4.
"Vera and Emma played very well in the doubles and moved on the doubles as well. They combined well and dominated both opponents, " Head Coach Choy said.
The Violets will finish play at the ITA Northeast Regional Championship during Sunday's final session, which is set to begin at 8am.
