The New York University men's and women's track and field teams started the final week of their regular seasons at the Widener Final Qualifier, hosted by Widener University in Chester, PA.
The Violets runners and jumpers looked to take another opportunity to post a qualifying performance for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships.
Olivia Jackson put her name in the NYU record books on Monday evening, setting a new program record in the 3000m steeplechase event with an 11:02.56 time.
Jon Diaz was the highest finishing Violet in the 800m final, taking fifth place with a 1:49.94 time. Aleksander Jopek (1:55.54) and William Cornick (2:00.54) also competed in the mid-distance event. Gianna Dawson was the lone NYU runner in the women's event, taking 10th place with a 2:13.11 finish.
NYU runners scored silver in the men's and women's 1500m event. Ryan Tobin led four Violet men in the top 15 finishers, placing second with a 3:46.38 time. Andrew Taylor (3:51.99) placed 11th, Huckleberry Oakes (3:52.88) placed 14th and Alex Hrycysyzn (3:52.28) placed 15th to round out the top four for NYU.
Stella Kuttner placed second in the women's 1500m run, crossing the line in 4:27.00. She was the first of four Violets in the race.
Mubeen Zainul represented the Violets in the 5000m, placing 21st in 14:51.24.
The Violets return to Williamstown, MA, for the second straight week for their regional championship meet on Wednesday and Thursday, May 14-15, hosted by the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference at Williams College.
