Members of the New York University men's and women's track & field teams competed at the Oscar Moore Invitational hosted by Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ, and the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA, on Saturday, April 12.
At Bucknell, Janie Cooper made program history in the women's 5,000-meter invitational, placing third overall with a personal-best time of 16:35.47, breaking Grace Richardson's NYU school record of 16:38.19 set last season.
Cooper was followed by Katherine Cochran, who clocked a personal best of her own in 16:38.31 to finish fifth. Sophomore Josephine Dziedzic added to the Violet success in the event, placing 21st with a personal-best 16:54.61.
In the men's 5,000-meter invitational, sophomore Liam Hagerty finished 24th in 14:35.81, while junior Andrew Taylor (14:40.74) and sophomore Alex Hrycysyzn (15:05.76) both turned in personal-best performances.
Both Evan Sherman and Jeffrey Chen bested the existing men's 10,000-meter NYU record on Saturday, with Sherman setting the new fastest time in program history. Sherman clocked in at 29:39.72, good for ninth overall. Chen (29:40.21) was just behind in tenth place.
Grace Rowley also impressed in the women's 10,000-meter run, placing sixth overall in a personal-best time of 35:37.25.
Jon Diaz ran 1:51.65 in the 800-meter to take seventh overall, while teammate Aleksander Jopek followed with a time of 1:54.99, each notching a new personal best.
In the men's 1,500-meter, Huckleberry Oakes clocked a personal-best 3:54.55, and senior Katherine Cheng recorded a personal best of her own in the women's section, finishing in 4:42.77.
Jacob Christy ran 15:12.81 in the 5,000-meter, also a personal best, placing 13th.
Meanwhile at Rowan, Micah Taffet led a strong NYU showing in the men's 3,000-meter, placing third in 8:59.99. Samir Hussain followed in sixth (9:12.20), with Trey Davidson (9:13.82) and Indy Minkoff (9:19.92) rounding out the pack.
In the jumps, Drew Boyce earned a runner-up finish in the men's triple jump with a mark of 13.36m.
Isaac Tu placed fourth in the same event, jumping 12.64m.
Oliver Fideler added a fourth-place finish in the long jump, marking 6.34m.
On the women's side, Seneca Guneratne ran 12.64 in the 100-meter prelims to qualify for finals.
In throws, Michelle Uvieghara placed fourth in the discus with a mark of 34.61m, and Emma Grunin took fifth in the javelin with a throw of 33.55m. Maddie Goodhart followed in ninth with a throw of 25.93m.
The Violets are back in action next Friday and Saturday, April 18-19, when they travel to Charlottesville, VA, to compete in the Virginia Challenge hosted by the University of Virginia.
