The University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships continued for the New York University women's swimming and diving team on Friday, February 14, hosted by Emory University in Atlanta, GA.
The Violets are in first place with 1253 points after three days of competition, just ahead of host Emory (1235).
Calista Lynch won the 400-yard individual medley, with Bethany Spangler and Zeynep Tokuz placing fourth and fifth, respectively.
The 100-yard butterfly was dominated by the Violets, with Nicole Ranile and Hope Xayaveth placing first and second. Ranile also won the 100-yard backstroke.
"Nicole had an absolutely incredible night — she shattered the school and UAA record in the 100 fly, out-touching Hope, and then came back to dominate the 100 back," said Head Swimming Coach Trevor Miele. "Just unreal."
Kaley McIntyre won the 200-yard freestyle, setting a new UAA record, and Elle Motekaitis placed third.
Anna Li was the runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke.
"Anna's 100 breaststroke was something special," said Miele. "She dropped a ton of time, broke her own school record, and made a real statement."
The Violets' 200-yard medley relay team of Ranile, Li, Xayaveth, and Isabel Oldham came in second place, only .24 seconds behind the fastest relay.
"I'm just so proud of the way our team showed up tonight," said Miele. "They raced with confidence, put up incredible times, and proved that all their hard work is paying off. It was a special night, and we're not done yet."
There were no women's diving events on Friday.
The last day of the Championships will be on Saturday, as the Violets pursue their first-ever UAA title.
