The University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships continued for the New York University women's swimming and diving team on Thursday, February 13, hosted by Emory University in Atlanta, GA.
The Violets ended the first day of competition in first place, and now sit in second place with 667 points.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Hope Xayaveth, Kaley McIntyre, Natsuk Uchino, and Isabel Oldham set a school record with a time of 1:32.34, taking home the victory. McIntyre swam a 21.9 second split, the fastest in NCAA Division III history.
In the 500-yard freestyle, Caitlin Marshall placed first, with Elle Motekaitis, and Aanya Wala coming in third and sixth, respectively.
"Caitlin staged an incredible comeback," said Head Swimming Coach Trevor Miele. "She was trailing headed into the final 100 yards, but out-split the Emory swimmer by four seconds to secure a thrilling victory."
Calista Lynch placed second in the 200-yard individual medley.
"Calista battled from start to finish and earned a personal best and a runner-up finish," said Miele. "She was impressive."
McIntyre won the 50-yard freestyle with another commanding performance.
The women's 400-yard medley relay — Nicole Ranile, Anna Li, Xayaveth, and McIntyre — won by over five seconds, breaking program and UAA records and coming within 0.2 seconds of the 2022 Division III record.
Issara Schmidt placed ninth in the women's 3-meter dive, with Meera Kasturi and Maya Williams coming in 12th and 16th.
"The results weren't what we were hoping for, but I'm proud of the way we came back to finish well," said Head Diving Coach Todd Kolean.
Competition continues on Friday, February 14, and Saturday, February 15, at Emory University.
