The New York University men's and women's track & field teams kicked off the 2025-26 season on Friday, December 5, competing at the FastTrack Season Opener held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island, NY, and also competing at the Armory Collegiate Distance Carnival at The Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory, in, New York, NY.
Three Violets competed in the Armory Collegiate Distance Carnival, with all three finishing in the top 10 of their respected event. For the men,
Edomias Mulugeta finished 10th in the 3000m with a time of 8:58.98 in his first ever indoor collegiate track race.
For the women,
Katharine Frank finished in fifth in the 3000m, while
Deia Mulligan finished one place behind her. Mulligan's time of 11:13.33 sets a new personal best for her, as she improved on her time from last year by 25 seconds.
In the track section at the FastTrack Season Opener,
Gianna Dawson finished fourth in the mile, while
Rina Kurihara finished only .13 seconds behind Dawson. The two finished four seconds behind the winner.
In the 60m dash,
Dasha Jackson claimed fourth place with a time of 8.65.
For the men,
Julian Aske finished second in the mile with a 4:10.79 time. He finished one second behind the new track & field Assistant Coach Hazem Miawed who ran independently.
William Cornick also ran the mile, finishing in 11th place.
The men had two top-10 finishers in the 60m dash, as both
Tyler Burch (4th) and
James Thompson (7th) ran new career bests. Thompson also ran in the 400m, adding a fifth-place finish to his day.
In the field aspect of the day,
Alexa McMillian finished in fourth place in the long jump. This was McMillian's first-ever NCAA competition, as she jumped 5.31m and finished .45m behind the eventual winner. Another first-time competitor,
Amalia Hronides, finished fifth in her first-ever collegiate high jump. She cleared the bar at 1.50m. In the shot put,
Emma Grunin finished 12th with 10.77m, setting a new career high.
Some members of the women's track & field team will participate in the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, hosted by Boston University, on Saturday, December 6. The event is expected to start at 10 am.
