The New York University wrestling team hosted its first dual meet of the season on Tuesday, November 25, as Division II Felician University visited the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.
The Violets won eight of the 10 matches and posted a 42-7 victory.
"I thought the team was outstanding. You don't always hear me say that either. I'm the critic," said Head Coach
Bruce Haberli. "The guys wrestled great, even the guys who lost were competitive and they didn't break, didn't give up, they fought for seven minutes."
NYU started the competition with a 6-0 advantage as
Anthony DeRosa won by forfeit at the 197 lb weight class, and the Violets were victorious in the first six matches.
Four Violets recorded pins during the match:
Nathan Faxon (HWT),
Jacob Venezia (133),
John Mairano (149),
Ty Finn (174).
In the evening's final (and featured) match,
Justin Mayes posted a 7-2 decision over Alex Dorce, the 11th-ranked wrestler at 184 in NCAA Division II.
"He stuck to his game plan and pulled out a victory in a match he knew was going to be tough," added Haberli.
The Violets return to the mat on Friday and Saturday, December 5-6, when they compete at the Petrofes Invitational at Messiah University in Grantham, PA.
