The New York University men's and women's golf teams opened their 2024-25 campaigns on day one of their respective University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships, on Monday, September 9, at the Elks Run Golf Course in Batavia, OH.
The men fell to Emory University 3-0 in the opening round, while the women were defeated 3-1 by Carnegie Mellon.
Oscar Uribe opened play for the NYU men and began his match tied through seven holes. However, he then fell three strokes behind over the next eight holes to lose the contest.
Jomyuth Luangtana-anan trailed by just just one stroke with four holes left to play in his match, but later trailed by three with two remaining.
Ryan Leung maintained a two-stroke lead heading into the 13th hole of his contest before his advantage slipped away by the 16th hole.
Ethan Yang recorded a draw after posting a one-up on the final hole of the match.
Naomi Tan of the women's team proved to be the lone winner of the day for the Violets, as she finished her match with a two-stroke edge. Though
Tiya Chowdary climbed back from an early deficit, she fell one stroke shy of a draw.
Kelly Jing was within one stroke with two holes left to go, but was unable to overcome the deficit.
Madison Phung and
Srishti Dhurandhar finished the day for NYU with three and two-stroke losses, respectively.
Both teams will continue their tournaments tomorrow at 9:00am. Both the men and women will face University of Rochester in the third-place matches.
