New York University's men's and women's swimming and diving teams have been named
Fall Scholar All-America by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
Additionally,
Trent Furman of the wrestling team was named University Athletic Association (UAA)
Athlete of the Week while men's basketball's
Zay Freeney was a Player of the Week Honorable Mention in the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association's (MBWA)
weekly honors.
NYU's men's swimming and diving team boasted a 3.53 GPA during the fall semester, while the women received the honor with a 3.65 team GPA. The UAA was also named a Scholar All-America conference on both sides.
The Violet women are currently ranked fourth in Division III in the
CSCAA's latest poll, while the men are ranked 10th. Both teams are back in action at the UAA Championships from February 14-17 in Chicago, IL.
Furman,
ranked 13th in Division III at 184 pounds, won both of his bouts as the
15th-ranked Violets split their two duals on Saturday. Furman delivered a pin in 3:45 in NYU's shutout of Bridgewater State before defeating eighth-ranked Coast Guard's Kenneth Marra in an 11-2 major decision.
Freeney's heroics led the
11th-ranked Violets to a comeback win at Emory on Sunday, as he hit the game-winning three-pointer with five seconds left in the 81-78 triumph. He finished with a game-high 25 points, eight boards, two assists, a block, and a steal. In the victory over Rochester on Friday, the junior had 15 points and three boards.
