Grace Richardson, Katherine Cochran and Lucy Gott from the New York University women's track & field team traveled to the Armory in Manhattan on Friday and Saturday, February 3-4, to compete in the mile and 3k races at the Scarlet Knights Opener hosted by Rutgers University.
On Friday, Richardson clocked 4:49.24 in the mile to place 6th out of 69 competitors. She crushed the previous NYU school record by an impressive six seconds, previously set by Maeve Evans in 2011 (5:55.02). Earlier this season, Richardson also broke the indoor 5k school record at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston, setting the time back to 16:44.20.
In addition to setting her second school record of the season, Richardson's mile is also currently ranked #1 in NCAA Division III, the fastest mile run so far this indoor season nationally.
On Saturday, graduate student Katherine Cochran clocked 10:03.83 in the 3k, claiming the 31st-best time across NCAA Division III so far this season. Sophomore Lucy Gott competed in the same heat, crossing the line in 10:19.68.
Both the men and women's track & field teams will be back in action for the Big Apple Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Park Track & Field Athletic Center on Staten Island, NY, on Saturday, February 10.
