The New York University women's track & field team completed day two of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships at the Armory in Manhattan, on Sunday, February 26.
Grace Richardson, who set the program record in the event just two weeks ago, won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:36.14.
"I sat on ther heels of two Chocago runners until 800 meters to go when I decided to go for it," said Richardson. "I think I'm ranked number two in the nation in the 3k, so it's an exciting place to be in going into nationals in a few weeks."
Janie Cooper achieved a new personal best in the 3k with her eighth-place, 9:58.14 finish. Cooper also competed in the mile, crossing the line in 5:07.88 to notch a seventh-place finish.
Dasha Jackson, who placed eighth and finished in 9.34 in the 60-meter hurdle prelims yesterday, went on to post a seventh-place finish in the final section of the event with a time of 9.57. She achieved a new personal best in the triple jump, marking 11.13m to take seventh once again.
Areyanna McCarthy placed eighth in the high jump with a mark of 1.48m.
The 4x400-meter relay team consisting of Laila Goodman, Cindy Leonard, Seneca Guneratne, and Beverly Okyere finished in 4:03.07 to take sixth, trailing fifth-place Carnegie Mellon University by less than a second.
Washington University (St. Louis) won the UAA Championship with 190 points, followed by the University of Chicago with 170.
NYU placed sixth with 33.5 points.
The Violets are back in action next weekend when they travel to Nazareth University to compete in the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Championships. Competition is set to begin at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 1.
