The New York University women's swimming and diving team capped off a stellar weekend at the Phoenix Invitational on Sunday, November 24, hosted by the University of Chicago.
The Violets, ranked #4 in the nation, dominated the seven-team competition, finishing in first place with a commanding score of 1600.5, well ahead of Chicago, ranked #2 nationally, which secured second place with 1209 points.
Kaley McIntyre was outstanding once again, cruising to victory in the 100-yard freestyle with an impressive time of 49.07, earning an NCAA automatic cut.
In the 200-yard breaststroke, Calista Lynch secured second place with a time of 2:18.90, achieving an NCAA selection time. Anna Li followed closely, finishing fourth with a time of 2:20.17 and achieving an NCAA "B" cut.
The 200-yard butterfly featured two standout performances: Nicole Ranile won the event in 2:00.17, and Reina Gomez claimed second place with a time of 2:03.82. Both swimmers achieved NCAA selection times.
The evening concluded with the 400-yard freestyle relay, where NYU's team dominated with a winning time of 3:23.55, easily achieving an NCAA selection cut.
In the 1650 freestyle, three Violets (Caitlin Marshall, Aanya Wala, Daria Chtokolov) all made the NCAA "Q" cut.
"I'm really happy with our performance this week," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "They came out on fire on Friday, carried the momentum all weekend, and finished with another amazing session."
On the diving boards, Katherine Taylor secured third place in the 3-meter event with a score of 477.30, continuing her exceptional form from earlier in the weekend.
"It was another really good day for NYU Diving," said Head Diving Coach Todd Kolean. "The women were better on the 3-meter event, again with close scoring. Katherine Taylor had a great weekend for a freshman, and Meera Kasturi was right behind her. All four women made the regional qualifying scores for the second time, ensuring their entrance into the February qualifying event."
Th Violets' are back in action on Saturday, December 7, when the swimmers face Johns Hopkins University at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ, while the divers compete at the Go Red Diving Invitational at RPI in Troy, NY .
