The New York University women's swimming and diving team delivered another stellar performance on Saturday, November 23, during Day 2 of the Phoenix Invitational, hosted by the University of Chicago.
The Violets, ranked #4 in the nation, continued to dominate the leader board of the seven-team competition, holding a commanding first-place position with a total score of 1103.5, well ahead of the University of Chicago, which sits in second place with 775 points.
Calista Lynch set the tone in the 400-yard individual medley, securing first place with a time of 4:22.60.
Hope Xayaveth added to the momentum with a decisive win in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking in at 54.47. Her performance not only secured victory but also broke the team's oldest women's swimming record.
Nicole Ranile showcased her strength in the backstroke events, winning the 100-yard backstroke in 54.70, while Anna Li made a significant impact by breaking the team's second-oldest record during her race. She secured second place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.25.
The Violets also excelled in the relays, with the team claiming first in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing in 1:42.45, and topping off the evening with an NCAA selection time of 7:27.20 in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Remarkably, the B relay team also achieved a selection standard, highlighting NYU's exceptional depth.
"Our women showed incredible grit and skill today. From breaking records to achieving NCAA cuts, it's a testament to their hard work and preparation," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "I couldn't be prouder of how they competed as a team and rose to the occasion."
In diving, Katherine Taylor led the way for the Violets, finishing fourth on the 1-meter board with a score of 433.95.
"It was like a heavyweight fight with two of the top five programs in the nation going at it. All the scores were extremely close," said Head Diving Coach Todd Kolean. "Katherine Taylor had a great meet, hitting all her dives, and all four women made the NCAA qualification score for the regional championship."
As the Phoenix Invitational heads into its final day tomorrow, the Violets are well-positioned to close out a highly successful weekend in Chicago.
