The New York University women's swimming and diving team made a strong start at the day 1 of Phoenix Invitational in Chicago on November 22.
Ranked #4 in the nation, the Violets delivered an exceptional performance, leading the seven-team field with a commanding 426 points, well ahead of the #2 nationally ranked University of Chicago, which sits in second with 321 points.
The evening began with fireworks as NYU's women's 200-yard freestyle relay team shattered the school record and achieved an NCAA "Q" cut. Led by Hope Xayaveth's powerful start and capped by Kaley McIntyre's blazing 22.2-second anchor leg, the relay set the tone for an extraordinary night.
Calista Lynch claimed victory in the 200-yard individual medley, clocking in at 2:04.14.
In the 50-yard freestyle, McIntyre secured another win with an impressive 22.86.
Caitlin Marshall showed a remarkable performance in the 500-yard freestyle, winning the event with a time of 4:54.87.
The night ended on a high note with the 400-yard medley relay team setting a new team record and finishing well under last year's NCAA "Q" cut. Hope's standout 100-yard butterfly split highlighted an exceptional team effort.
"We had an incredible night of performances today. Breaking records and hitting NCAA cuts on the first day is a testament to the hard work this team has put in," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "It was a night to remember!"
The Violets will return to the pool tomorrow for Day 2 of the Invitational. Swimming events are scheduled for 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM at University of Chicago.
