Women's Soccer Team to Host Pride Night

Initiative Set for Saturday, October 12

New York University's LGBTQ+ Affinity group will be hosting a Pride Night at the Violets' women's soccer University Athletic Association (UAA) home opener versus the University of Chicago this Saturday, October 12, at 6:00pm.

In the spirit of Pride, the women's soccer team, NYU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and the affinity group have joined forces to host this match celebrating inclusion and community for queer students and allies at NYU.

The LGBTQ+ affinity group is led by the women's soccer team captain Bryce Chan, who serves as President, and advisor Holly Crane, a Strength and Conditioning Coach within the Department of Athletics.

The group's goal is to "provide a supportive and empowering space where student-athletes come together to build a strong community. Through open dialogues and engaging events, we aim to foster connections, celebrate diversity, and address important topics in both the athletic and LGBTQ+ realms."

"Realizing, embracing, and nourishing my place in the community has been one of my favorite aspects of the journey," Chan said. "Friendships where I've discovered a profound connection due to similar identities has fueled my love for the queer community. I've been lucky enough to meet wonderful people, both within and outside the LGBTQ+ collective, who have cultivated an extraordinary sense of pride. To be able to promote that vision is something I will forever strive to do, and having the privilege of achieving that here at NYU means more than words can convey."

Also a member of the group is senior team captain Kelli Keady.

"I am really proud that this game is dedicated to Pride," Keady offered. "The beauty of soccer is that it's for everyone, and on this team we really embody that inclusive culture. So, it is special to celebrate that with our community"

All NYU students and fans are encouraged to attend the game, which will take place in Newark, NJ, on the campus of the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

The Violets are off to a great start in 2024, having gone unbeaten thus far and sporting a 7-0-4 record. NYU is currently ranked #16 nationally
