The New York University men's fencing team,
currently ranked #14 in the nation among all NCAA squads, had a perfect day on Saturday, January 20, at the Philadelphia Invitational.
The Violets claimed five victims on the day, including victories over #8 host University of Pennsylvania (17-10), #10 Johns Hopkins University (17-10), #12 UC San Diego (14-13), #13 University of North Carolina (19-8), and #17 Duke University (19-8).
"Our guys are performing at a very high level right now, and the key is that they are competing for one another," said Head Coach
Ben Bratton. "They are really fired up."
Bratton was most pleased with the performance of the foil team, which took seven of nine bouts against Duke and five of the nine against U Penn in back-to-back matches.
"It was quite a run. To be honest, it was astonishing," Bratton explained.
The Violets will face several more ranked teams when the Invitational continues on Sunday.
