The New York University women's track & field team competed in the NYC Gotham Cup, held at Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility on Staten Island on Friday, January 19.
Sophomore
Kate Walsh set a new program record for the Violets in the long jump leaping 5.37m to top the previous record of 5.29m set by Attiyya Settle in 2015.
Walsh (27.05), along with teammate
Seneca Guneratne (26.48), achieved new personal bests in the 200-meter dash.
Dasha Jackson set a new personal best and placed second in the triple jump competition marking 11.09m. Freshman
Mariel Rocca placed ninth in the competition to achieve a new best of 10.29m.
Jackson was also the lone NCAA Division III athlete to qualify for the final section of the 60-meter hurdles competition. She placed eighth overall to clock in at 9.94.
Nikhita Bolineni placed 11th in the preliminary round and set a new top time of 10.26.
Michelle Uvieghara threw 12.24m, topping her best and placing third in the shot put.
In the 400-meter dash,
Mackenzie Richard surpassed her top time by just under three seconds, clocking in at 1:03.73.
Clocking in at 4:06.49 and placing sixth for the Violets in the 4x400-meter relay was Guneratne,
Laila Goodman,
Cindy Leonard, and
Beverly Okyere.
The women's team will be back in action next weekend when they compete in the Dr. Sander Invitational hosted by Columbia University at the Armory on Friday and Saturday, January 26-27.
