NYU Softball Player Earns Gold Glove Award

Margaux Lesser, in her first season at second base for the New York University softball team, is one of nine recipients of the inaugural NCAA Division III Golden Glove Awards.

Recipients of the Rawlings Gold Glove Awards, presented by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), were selected by the 10 regional representatives of the NFCA's NCAA Division III All-America Committee following regional voting to identify the finalists at each position. The group utilized fielding statistics and school-submitted video to closely examine finalists and select the winners at every defensive position. Any student-athlete who competed in the current championship year and was nominated by their head coach (who must be a member in good standing with the NFCA) was eligible for consideration for this prestigious accolade.

Lesser was near-perfect in the field for the Violets during the 2023 campaign. The junior transfer played in all 38 games during her inaugural NYU season and posted a .980 fielding percentage. She committed only three errors in 148 chances, recording 67 putouts and 78 assists while also taking part in five double plays.

Lesser's offensive statistics were not too shabby, either, as she led the team in hits (35), runs (21), walks (12), on-base percentage (.446), and OPS (.858), while finishing second with a .361 batting average.

"Margaux did a phenomenal job helping us grow as a team, both on the defensive and offensive sides," said Head Coach Now-Allah James. "Her work ethic made us better on the field. She worked hard every day and it showed in the games. She was a leader both on and off the field."
