Samantha Burggraf and
Margaux Lesser of New York University's softball team received Second Team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) accolades, announced by the league office on Monday.
Lesser, a transfer from the University of Massachusetts - Amherst and a former team member at the University of Rhode Island, leads the the team in hits with 32, stolen bases with seven and slugging percentage (.402). Having accumulated five stolen bases against UAA opponents, she's tied for ninth in the conference rankings.
Lesser's .348 batting average is the second highest on the team, and she compiled an 11-game hitting streak from March 15-April 1. She's also second with 18 runs scored and posted two games with three hits.
On defense, Lesser leads the Violets in assists with 74, 37 of which came during conference play, earning her the fourth spot in the UAA rankings.
Burggraf, a second-year team member and transfer from Babson College, ranks third for the Violets in batting average (.299) and RBI (13). Over 47 appearances at the plate during conference play, she ranks seventh in on base percentage (.444) and ninth in batting average (.362).
Over the course of this season, Burggraf recorded 23 hits, four doubles and also smacked a home run against Washington University in St. Louis on March 26.
The Violets take the field for the final time this season on Tuesday, May 9, when they take on Hunter College in a doubleheader on Staten Island.
