New York University's baseball team defeated Purchase College 24-8 in Tampa, FL on Saturday to conclude the Violets' trip to the Sunshine State on a high note.
NYU scored five runs in the first, four in the second, two in the third, five in the fourth, two in the fifth and six more in the sixth to account for the high-powered offense.
The Violets held Purchase scoreless for the first three frames before giving up five in the fourth. The Panthers put three more runs across in the the seventh but it was too little, too late as NYU ran away with the victory.
New York's lineup notched 18 hits and reached base via walk 11 times.
Cam Dunn (3-for-4) led the way as he,
Richard Beggy,
Alex VanLandingham,
Max Oliveira and
Russell Burton all had multi-hit outings.
Joseph Augustine,
Dylan Branca,
Aidan Dolinsky,
Mason Clark,
Christopher Cheadle and
Joseph Argenziano all had scoreless outings on the mound as eight Violets toed the rubber in the win.
Four walks and three singles led to NYU's five-run first inning while Dunn roped a two-run double power the four-run second.
Those early nine runs would have eventually still sealed the win for the Violets, but the highlight of the day was Dunn and
Nick Argenziano both launching solo home runs in the bottom of the fifth. It was the first home run of the season for each of them.
Joe Cetale was the star of the six-run sixth, stepping in with the bases loaded and clearing them with a double for his first three RBIs of the season.
NYU improved to 7-5 on the year with the win and move into University Athletic Association (UAA) play next.
The Violets travel to Emory University in Atlanta, GA to begin the UAA slate with a four-game series. The opener is scheduled for Friday, March 24, at 3:00 p.m.
