The New York University
tenth-ranked women's and
tenth-ranked men's swimming & diving teams completed Day 2 of the Violet-hosted Winter Invite on Saturday at the Palladium Natatorium.
While the Violets did not add additional NCAA Division III qualification cuts in the swimming pool, the men's diving team posted two new Northeast Regional Diving Championships qualifying scores in the one-meter. Both performing 11 dives,
Mitchell Mortenson totaled 438.05 while
Sahil Das logged 437.50 to secure their Regionals appearances.
William Hopkins and
Claire Stephenson also made the qualifying score, recording 270.50 in six dives and 410.80 in 11, respectively. However, without two sufficient marks throughout the year, they fell just short of Regionals qualifications.
Teammates
Jack Callaghan (243.70) and
Makai Harder (234.80) also competed with six dives each on Saturday.
"Senior and captain Jack has been out with injuries this season but was able to compete in his final meet today," Head Diving Coach
Todd Kolean said. "He crushed it. Freshman Makai finished with one of his best scores of the year."
"Overall, it was a good final day of the regular season for NYU diving," Kolean added.
NYU is set to host the Northeast Regional Diving Championships at the Palladium Natatorium on Friday, February 24, and Saturday, the 25. The women's three-meter and men's one-meter will take place on Friday while the women's one-meter and men's three-meter will occur on Saturday.
In the lap pool,
Leo Han swam a career-best time of 4:34.15 in the men's 500 freestyle.
Damian Baranowski finished in 4:52.66 for his own personal record.
Emily Rodriguez dropped 0.29 seconds off her personal best in the women's 100 freestyle to clock 53.79.
While the divers will next return to the pool for Regionals, the men's and women's swimming teams have a break until the final meet of the season, the NCAA National Championships in Greensboro, NC, from March 15-18.
