Wrestling Team Adds Two New Coaches

Former Grapplers Will Ortman and Patrick Glory Join Staff

The New York University wrestling team has added a pair of former wrestlers as Volunteer Assistants to the coaching staff.

Will Ortman, a former Violet, and Patrick Glory, who wrestled at Princeton University, have both joined the staff.

Ortman, who will work mainly with the upper weights, is a 2021 NYU graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, He returned and completed his Master of Science degree in Real Estate Development in 2022.

A four-year team member, Ortman competed as a heavyweight and won the 285-pound title at the 2022 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship. He compiled a 43-23 record during his NYU career, twice finishing fourth at the NCAA Northeast Regional.

A former team captain, Ortman was also named to the UAA Presidents Council Scholar-Athlete Team in 2022. While at NYU, he was part of the NYU Diversity and Inclusion Working Group and served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

"Will will be a tremendous addition working with our upper weights," said Head Coach Bruce Haberli. "He was a great leader and captain for us, and will bring a lot of toughness and experience to our room."

Glory, a 2023 Princeton graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and an Undergraduate Certificate in Finance, will work mainly with NYU's top five weight classes. A four-year member of the Tigers' wrestling team, he was the NCAA Champion at 125 pounds and posted an undefeated season (25-0) as a senior.

An All-American in each of his four seasons at Princeton, Glory finished as National Runner-up in 2022, sixth as a freshman, and as the #2 seed heading into the NCAA Championships as a sophomore. The event was canceled, however, due to Covid-19, but Glory still received First Team All-America honors.

Producing a career 99-9 record, Glory was named Ivy League Wrestler of the Year as a sophomore and was a three-time First-Team All-Ivy League honoree. He also competed for Team USA at the U23 World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, in 2022 after qualifying by winning the 2021 U23 national title.

"Having a Division I national champion and a multiple-time All-American on our staff will really pay off," Haberli explained. "His presence in our wrestling room will be a big asset for our athletes."

The NYU wrestling season begins on November 4 at the Ned McGinley Invitational at King's College.
