New York University received three of four University Athletic Association (UAA) Soccer Athlete of the Week awards after the Violets' men's and women's teams both won at UAA rival University of Chicago this past weekend.
Joss Cohen (Offense) and
Chaz Bond (Defense) were named Athletes of the Week on the men's side while
Tyler Hawkins garnered Athlete of the Week - Defense for the women.
Cohen scored his first two collegiate goals, both game-winners, this past week, most notably his 83rd-minute finish to give the Violets a 1-0 win at Chicago on Saturday. The victory was NYU's third of the year and brought the team to 1-1 in UAA play.
Earlier in the week, Cohen netted the first goal of his career to open the scoring in the 22nd minute of NYU's 3-0 home win over Eastern University, heading home a well-placed cross to the far post.
Bond was also crucial to the Violets' triumph in Chicago, making seven saves with four in the second half, as he kept a clean sheet. The junior also played the second half against Eastern, saving the Eagles' long shot on goal of the night.
Hawkins kept Chicago women's soccer's attack at bay as NYU built a sizable advantage before going on to win 4-2. She played the first 83 minutes in goal, keeping the Maroons scoreless with three saves. The Violets are now 9-1 on the season and 1-1 in the Association.
NYU's soccer teams are back for more UAA action on Saturday, October 14, hosting Washington University in St. Louis for a doubleheader in Newark, NJ.
