Meera Kasturi won the women's three-meter dive to highlight New York University's performance on day one of the NYU Diving Invitational at the Palladium Natatorium in Manhattan on Thursday night.
Kasturi, a rookie, took first in the three-meter with a score of 441.45 while teammate
Katherine Nardone claimed second with a score of 418.40. Both Violets secured regional-qualifying scores with their showings.
Grayson Kim also competed in the women's three-meter, finishing fifth (373.45). Two divers from fellow University Athletic Association (UAA) program Carnegie Mellon University and one diver from Division I St. Francis College-Brooklyn also took part in the event.
For the men,
Hunter Whitbeck led the way in the one-meter with a fourth-place finish and regional-qualifying score (442.85).
Makai Harder (410.75),
Mitchell Mortenson (407.30) and
William Hopkins (402.80) also took the boards for the Violets, placing seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively.
CMU's Jud Kyle claimed first place in the men's one-meter with a score of 519.40.
There is no team scoring at the Invitational.
The second and final day of the NYU Diving Invitational begins at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow, January 13, at the Palladium.
