The University Athletic Association (UAA) has announced its 2022 Winter Sport All-Academic honorees.
New York University had 135 student-athletes across nine sports (Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Fencing, Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving, Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field, Wrestling) recognized for their academic success.
In total, 913 student-athletes from the eight UAA institutions were honored.
Within the UAA, All-Academic recognition is awarded to student-athletes who have completed at least one full year of college study and who carry a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.300. The 3.300 minimum cumulative grade point average is the same academic standard used as a qualifying threshold by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for the nomination of Academic All-America® candidates in all sports.
On the various fields of play, it has been an outstanding winter campaign for NYU Athletics:
- Women's basketball won the UAA title for the first time since 2007 and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Championship Tournament.
- Both fencing teams finished the season ranked #1 in NCAA Division III and have combined to send five fencers to this weekend's NCAA Championship.
- The swimming & diving teams sent 27 qualifiers to the NCAA Championship. The Violets earned eight All-America honors, 12 Honorable Mention All-America accolades, and both
Caitlin Marshall (200 butterfly) and
Jessica Flynn (100 backstroke) won National Championships in their events.
- Four wrestlers qualified for the NCAA Championships, with
Cooper Pontelandolfo earning All-America honors.
