To close out a stellar weekend at the Bruno Invitational in Providence, RI, on Sunday, New York University's
eighth-ranked women's swimming team collected eight more NCAA qualifications and one more team record from
Kaley McIntyre. The squad now boasts 16 NCAA cuts and three program records on the weekend.
The Violets' strong performances placed them in second with 782 points, behind Brown University's 1598 and ahead of the University of New Hampshire's 752.
"The women killed it today and the entire meet," Head Coach
Trevor Miele said. "They outperformed my expectations. We are set up really well for the spring."
In her lead-off for the 400 freestyle relay, McIntyre took down Honore Collins's 100 freestyle record of 50.75 from 2018-19, clocking 50.54. Her speedy relay leg helped her team finish third with a time of 3:27.23, sending both the group and her 100 free to Nationals.
McIntyre continued with the second-fastest 200 backstroke time in the country, taking second with a time of 1:59.62 and slicing over three seconds off her previous personal best.
Jessica Flynn will join her at Nationals with her B final victory and time of 2:00.09, smashing her career record by over seven seconds.
Caitlin Marshall also climbed the national leaderboard with second-place finish in the 200 butterfly. Recording a time of 1:59.95, she leads all of Division III in the event.
Marshall and
Nicole Ranile, who took fifth in the A final with a personal best of 2:01.59, both secured lanes at Nationals with their swims.
Georgia Basil added to the NCAA qualifications and personal records in the 1650 freestyle, finishing fifth in 17:17.55.
Anna Li swam a personal best in the 200 breaststroke prelims, taping 2:18.83. She later finished fifth in the finals in 2:19.19, achieving an NCAA cut.
"Kaley and Caitlin had amazing meets but they were not the only ones," Miele said. "Just great performances up and down the roster."
The Violets return to uninterrupted winter training until January 13 for a dual meet against Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ.
