Leo Han demolished the 100 butterfly team record in one of his two victories on Saturday, the second day of the Bruno Invitational in Providence, RI. Meanwhile, the women added two more relay teams to their NCAA roster in addition to numerous individual qualifications to help the New York University
sixth-ranked men's and
eighth-ranked women's swimming teams expand their illustrious portfolio.
"It was a great day," Head Coach
Trevor Miele said. "I was really proud of their efforts. All their hard work this semester has paid off and they are posting some very impressive times."
Han led the way with his 100 butterfly, dominating the rest of the field that included three Division I Brown swimmers. His 47.93 performance blasted past Jerry Crowley's 48.59 record from 2014-15, one of the oldest team records in the books. Han didn't stop there, collecting a 100 backstroke title in 48.61 to add two NCAA qualifications to his flourishing collegiate career.
"Leo's 100 fly was outstanding," Miele said. "He dominated the race right from the start and blew away the field on the last lap. It was awesome to see him dip under 48 and take down Jerry's record."
Connor Vincent and Nathaniel Yeoh both posted qualifying times after a tight finish in the 200 freestyle, recording 1:38.58 for second and 1:38.68 in third, respectively. Vincent snagged another personal best after beating his previous 500 freestyle record
on Friday.
The women claimed multiple new Nationals qualifications and personal bests as well. The 200 medley relay powered to second with a time of 1:43.48 while the 800 freestyle relay finished third in 7:33.69.
Jessica Flynn achieved another qualification in the 100 backstroke (second, 55.19) after meeting the mark yesterday in her 400 medley relay lead-off.
Isabella Brosvik delivered a personal best in the 100 butterfly, clocking 55.39 in fourth place.
Emery Muller swam the fastest time of her career in the 200 freestyle, taping 1:51.72 to place sixth.
Kaley McIntyre dropped almost a full second in the 100 backstroke (fifth, 56.62) while
Anna Li dropped nearly two seconds in the 100 breaststroke prelims (fifth, 1:04.74 in the finals), improving a personal best set just three weeks ago.
The men now trail host Brown University 772 points to 977. The women have amassed 530 points to hold a tight lead over the University of New Hampshire (516). Both teams sit behind Brown at 1049.
The Violets will leave everything they have in the pool on Sunday for the last two sessions of the three-day invite. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. and finals start at 5 p.m.
