After a powerful first day of the LGR! Diving Invitational in Troy, NY, on Saturday, the six competitors from New York University's men's and women's teams walked away with six NCAA Division III Regional Championships qualifications.
Diving against host Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Trinity College, the Violets commanded the women's three-meter and men's one-meter.
"Up and down the roster we had a great meet," Head Diving Coach
Todd Kolean said. "Every diver made the regional qualifying score."
Meera Kasturi documented the highest total of the day with 492.10, taking first place. She was followed by
Grayson Kim (second, 451.40) and
Katherine Nardone (third, 437.30) to complete the Violet sweep.
In the one-meter,
Hunter Whitbeck claimed the title with a score of 481.30.
Sahil Das placed second with 474.10 and
Mitchell Mortenson took fourth with 447.30.
"I wasn't sure what to expect after the Thanksgiving break," Kolean said. "We were a little rusty in practice leading into this weekend and then we came in and completely killed it. Meera had the best meet of the year and Hunter dominated again, but everyone had a really good first day."
The divers are back in action at 12 p.m. on Sunday to finish off the remainder of the invitational.
