In their first dual meet of the season, the New York University's
eighth-ranked women's and
ninth-ranked men's swimming teams dominated Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ, on Saturday, October 22. The women posted a score of 167-90 and the men won 148-114.
"We had a great meet today. It was fantastic to get off to a great start," said Head Coach
Trevor Miele. "The women came out and dominated from the first race and the men's meet was very competitive. It was nice to see our guys pull it out."
Nicole Ranile,
Avery Lambert and
Anna Li each secured two individual titles to help lift the Violets over Rowan. Ranile won the 200 freestyle (1:56.61) and 200 butterfly (2:04.79), making an NCAA B cut in the fly. Lambert commanded the distance freestyle, placing first in both the 1000 freestyle (10:35.23) and 500 freestyle (5:07.74). Li took control of the breaststroke, winning the 100 (1:07.23) and 200 (1:48.82).
Kaley McIntyre also had a first-place finish in the 100 freestyle (53.05).
Part of the women's domination was taking the top three places in the 200 medley relay, 100 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 200 breaststroke, 500 freestyle, and 100 butterfly.
On the men's side, the Violets' A team managed to out-touch Rowan in the 200 individual medley relay, winning by just 0.15 seconds in the first event of the day.
Connor Vincent took care of the distance freestyle with wins in the 1000 (9:40.92) and 500 (4:42.03).
Nathaniel Yeoh placed first in the 200 freestyle (1:42.56) and 100 freestyle (46.60) while
Ajay Watanakun bested the field in the 50 freestyle (21.13).
Gavin Egerton and
Jaeden-Hans Yburan tied in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:56.05.
"We have two more weeks of hard work ahead of us until we race again at the NYU Invitational," said Miele. "The Invite is important because they will get to swim their best events in a multi-session meet that mirrors UAA (University Athletic Association) Championships."
The men's and women's teams will face off against Stevens Institute of Technology and Drew University in the NYU Fall Invitational, which is set for November 4-5 in the Palladium Athletic Facility.
